VIABAHIA has become the first federal road concessionaire with an international standard in Road Safety Management.
With the commitment to preserve lives and reduce traffic accidents, VIABAHIA has obtained the certification in Road Safety Management, ISO 39001. It is the first federal highway concessionaire that complies with international standards in this area. During this process, the quality of the services it offers to society has been verified, reviewing policies and actions on issues such as pre-hospital care, available 24 hours a day for users. This is more than just guaranteeing a good trip. They are measures to guarantee lives. ISO 39001 certification specifies the requirements for an efficient road safety management system and covers different factors, such as respect for regulatory speed and the use of personal road safety equipment (such as seat belts, among others). In practice, it recognizes the concessionaire’s overall efforts to comply with this standard, with the presentation of evidence and actions, such as the reduction of accidents and victims, year after year. There was also evidence of investment in employee training and awareness. “VIABAHIA has been working with management systems since 2011 with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards. The achievement of ISO 39001 certification is very important for us, since it shows that the practice of operating road safety in our daily lives has a management and control methodology, which generates positive results for the reduction of accidents on roads. This provides users with more confidence and safety. Receiving the title of first Brazilian federal concessionaire fills us with pride,” explains Viviane Rocha, Quality, Workplace Safety and Environment and Occupational Health Manager (QSMS). During four days, two auditors from the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) were able to verify compliance with the management system implemented by VIABAHIA, with document analysis, interviews, visits to the facilities and actual monitoring of the service to users, with respect to the mechanical and emergency assistance system. A strong point identified by the auditors was the implementation of the Road Safety Committee, composed of representatives from different areas of the company, where indicators, critical points, causes and actions to reduce accidents are analyzed. Congratulations, ViaBahia, for this important step in our Road Safety strategy!
