Sustainability - ROADIS

Sustainable commitment

At ROADIS we want to be an active part of
the transition
to a more sustainable world. We work every day to transversally integrate
sustainability in all the infrastructure projects we manage.

Our understanding of sustainability, in line with our purpose and strategic vision, is to create long-term value in the communities and countries in which we operate.

We are aware that, by improving connectivity between people and places, infrastructure contributes to economic development and social well-being. We contribute to sustainable development by providing essential services through our business.

Our sustainability strategy is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and focuses on five lines of work. Each of them responds to the priorities our stakeholders identified through a materiality analysis and aims to generate a positive and measurable social and environmental impact.

Sustainability Master Plan

Our Sustainability Master Plan responds to the main challenges we face and guides us on our path towards a sustainable economic model.

The five main pillars of the Sustainability Master Plan are:

Sustainable Development Goals

In 2022 we formally joined the United Nations Global Compact. This initiative aims to accompany businesses in the transition process towards a more sustainable business model, based on the   Sustainable Development Goals.

Through our activity, we make a special contribution to 8 of the 17 SDGs:

Alligned with the SBTi

The latest climate science from the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) are described by the UN as “code red for humanity”. Although it shows it is still possible to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C, we are dangerously close to that threshold. That is why it is essential to start working rapidly in halving global emissions before 2030 and achieving net-zero before 2050.

With this horizon in sight, at ROADIS we set science-based near and long-term targets to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040. These objectives have been approved by the SBTi according to the net-zero emissions criteria. That’s why we appear in the list of Companies Taking Action that you can consult here.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050

The initiative is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments. The SBTi defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting, offers resources and guidance to reduce barriers to adoption, and independently assesses and approves companies’ targets.

Our targets

ROADIS has approved near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets with the SBTi.

Near-term

Long-term

ROADIS commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG
emissions 42.0% by 2030 from a 2021 base year.

ROADIS commits to reduce absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions 90% by 2040 from a 2021 base year.

Net-zero

The SBTi has verified ROADIS’ net-zero science-based target by 2040.

Direct emissions reductions (decarbonization) will be prioritized and all residual emissions will be neutralized (if applicable) in line with SBTi criteria before reaching net-zero emissions.

Taking care of the environment

At ROADIS, we are committed to the environment and support the transition to a low-carbon economy to combat climate change. To this end, we implement measures to protect and respect the planet and promote efficient management of natural resources.

Our commitment to the prevention and mitigation of climate risks is evidenced by the achievement of prestigious international certifications that focus on continuous improvement over time.

On a daily basis, we focus on identifying and measuring possible impacts derived from our activity and establish measures to minimize and mitigate the latter, for example, initiatives to protect and restore biodiversity. In addition, through innovation, we seek increasingly sustainable solutions from a technological and operational point of view.

We also manage the impacts generated by our value chain. We have a Supplier Code of Ethics that meets strict environmental and social standards.

At ROADIS, we drive the progress of the communities in which we operate by implementing initiatives that respond to their needs while promoting sustainable development.

Business ethics and good governance

Ethics, integrity and transparency are our corporate values, which is why we always apply good governance practices and lead the fight against corruption while defending and promoting human rights.

To this end, we have a corporate governance structure, with policies and internal control mechanisms that allow us to ensure these values and the integrity of the ROADIS team and its partners in line with the legal requirements of the countries in which we operate.

In addition, to ensure that environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues are increasingly integrated into the business, we have created a Sustainability Committee, which is responsible for overseeing and managing these issues alongside the Board of Directors and the management team.
